Highway 1 back open following downed tree, power lines near Point Lobos

A portion of Highway 1 was closed due to downed trees and powerlines.

According to Caltrans District 5, State Route 1 closed between Point Lobos and Highlands Drive Wednesday morning.

The downed trees and powerlines landed on a car parked in the area. The driver was not in the car at the time the tree came down.

Caltrans told KION more than a dozen trees fell on the highway near and south of Point Lobos. At one point crews opened a lane and another branch came down leading to the road being closed again.

Caltrans reported that Highway 1 was reopen as of 11:30 a.m.

Crews will remain in the area throughout the day clearing trees as they come down.
