CHP: Speeding driver crashes following pursuit in Watsonville

A speeding driver crashed and disabled his car while attempting to get away from an officer with the California Highway Patrol.

The pursuit took place on San Andreas Road in Watsonville around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday.

The suspect, Josue Tapia-Pantoja, 25, was spotted speeding in a 2014 Chrysler 300 when an officer tried to pull him over.

A nearby resident’s security camera captured part of the pursuit on surveillance.

“If you listen closely, you can hear the moment the fleeing vehicle hit a curb which ultimately disabled his car while fleeing,” said CHP Santa Cruz.

Pantoja hit a curb and disabled the Chrysler on Ohlone Parkway.

Tapia-Pantoja was taken into custody without further incident. He was arrested for evading, DUI and possession of open container of marijuana.
