Palma Assistant Principal discusses Super Bowl playing past
Palma Assistant Principal and Dean of Students Chris Dalman remembers his Super Bowl past.
“Running around and playing that sport, you can only dream one day that you could possibly do that and next thing you know you’re standing in the middle of the stadium, jets flying overhead, and you’re playing in the Super Bowl. The emotions of it all are the things you have to contain early, all because never in your wildest dreams do you believe you’re going to get there,” Dalman told KION.
Dalman spent eight years in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers as an offensive lineman. He was on the 1994-1995 team, headlined by quarterback Steve Young and wide receiver Jerry Rice, that defeated the San Diego Chargers 49-26.
“It’s one of those few games where it’s ‘I can’t believe we won this. And tomorrow I don’t have to wake up and worry about another game.’ And all the things that come wth that. You always know you’re a Super Bowl champion, and you’re going to get a ring. You can’t believe you’re going to get one of those,” Dalman said.
Dalman played football at Palma School in Salinas before going to Stanford for college. He returned to both schools as a coach. He also spent time as an assistant offensive line coach for the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons.
Super Bowl 53 airs on KION. The New England Patriots play the Los Angeles Rams.
