Body recovered at Garrapata State Park ID’d as missing Carmel teen
UPDATE: 1/22/2019 12:52 p.m. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the body recovered at Garrapata State Park is that of the missing Carmel teen swept out to sea.
18-year-old Braxton Cooper Stuntz was out with friends at Garrapata Beach on Saturday, Jan. 12 near a blow hole when he was swept into the ocean.
A body was recovered near the beach on Monday, Jan. 21.
On Tuesday, the sheriff’s office confirmed with KION that the body is that of Stuntz.

Authorities tell KION a body was found at Garrapata State Park.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said someone reported seeing the body of a man at the south end of the park Monday morning.
Search and rescue is responding to the scene.
The sheriff’s office could not confirm if the body was that of missing 18-year-old Braxton Cooper Stuntz.
The Carmel teen went missing on Jan. 12 after falling into the ocean at Garrapata State Park.
