Marina man caught with bomb-making materials, arrested

UPDATE: Friday, Decemeber 21, 6:12 p.m.

In a quiet Marina neighborhood, police said one man’s dangerous project was uncovered. Marina Police arrested 23-year-old, Jeremy Rogers, Wednesday. This came after a complaint regarding his odd behavior.

Rogers was found to be in possession of bomb-making materials. Neighbors who said they saw the arrest, still have questions. “I didn’t really know what was going on at first. I thought it was maybe the drugs but I had no idea it was a bomb related incident.,” said Andrew Iriarti, a nearby resident.

Rogers is booked to the Monterey County Jail, where he remains on no bail. Police said Rogers admitted his intent was to use a destructive device somewhere outside of California.

“Today, people can google how to do these things. Unfortunately, all that stuff is right there at your fingertips. It’s unfortunate that we have to think about something like this, today, but we do,” said Commander Eddie Anderson with Marina Police.

Police said they don’t know the details of Rogers’ plan, but neighbors suspect it wasn’t good. “I can’t really think of a reason why someone would want to make homemade bombs, unless they had something bigger planned,” said Iriarti.

Police said the case is still under investigation. Rogers will appear for his next hearing at the Monterey County Court on January 10, 2019.

Marina Police Officers have arrested a man suspected of trying to make a bomb.

Bomb-making materials were found at the 3100 block of Seacrest Avenue Thursday afternoon, but the suspect, 23-year old Jeremy Rogers, wasn’t there.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Team was called to the scene, and they determined that the materials found could have been used to make a destructive device. They didn’t find any other materials or dangers.

Rogers was later found in another area with more bomb-making materials admitting to police that he wanted to use a destructive device out of state.

He was arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail on felony charges without bail.
