Watsonville man attempts to rape mentally disabled girl

A Watsonville man was arrested for attempting to have sex with a mentally disabled girl.

According to Watsonville police, 22-year-old Cirilio Mejia was found alone inside a bathroom with the victim. Mejia admitted he wanted to have a sexual relationship with the 11-year-old girl.

Mejia rented a room from the victim’s family.

The victim’s mom found Mejia and her daughter inside the bathroom in Nov. and contacted police.

Detectives began investigating and gathered enough evidence to arrest Mejia for kidnapping with the intent to commit rape and lewd acts with a child.

Meijia was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail. He’ll be in court next week. If convicted, Mejia faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
