Police: Watsonville cheer coach asks student to do nude photo shoot

A Watsonville cheerleading coach was arrested for soliciting provocative photos from a student.

According to police, 36-year-old Matthew Davis attempted to make child pornography, solicited a child for sex and arranged to meet with an underage girl.

Davis is a cheerleading coach and teachers aide at Pajaro Valley High School.

The Watsonville Police Department said for three weeks Davis pressured a teenage girl to do a nude photo shoot.

“That girl then reported this incident and this type of behavior to school administrators, and then school administrators turned around and told our school resource officer,” said Michelle Pulido, a spokesperson for the Watsonville Police Department.

WPD was notified and monitored text messages between the victim and Davis. He was arrested Thursday morning.

School officials said Davis is on administrative leave.

Pulido said because Davis was around students most of his day, it is possible there could be other victims.

“That’s why it’s very important for parents to talk to their kids,” she said. “They need to know what their kids are doing, they need to monitor their social media accounts, they need to be checking their cell phones.”

In this case, Pulido said the victim did the right thing by reporting Davis’ behavior to the school.

Anyone with information about this case can contact Detective Rudy Lopez at 831-768-3357.
