Watsonville teen killed in DUI crash

A Watsonville teenager was killed in a DUI crash in the Bay Area.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened in San Jose Saturday night.

The driver of a Ford Mustang was traveling in the right shoulder of northbound Highway 101 when it crashed into 18-year-old Noe Fernandez Ortiz’s Honda Civic.

CHP told KION Ortiz was likely parked on the side of the highway because he was experiencing car trouble.

The Mustang struck the back of the Civic sending it onto Trimble Road.

Ortiz died at the scene and two passengers suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Mustang, a 29-year-old from Santa Clara was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.

Ortiz’s cousin wrote this on the donation page, “We are asking for help to lay my cousin Noe Fernandez to rest he was in a fatal accident and in these times any donation is well appreciated he was taken from us way to soon he was only 18 and didn’t deserve this due to a driver who was driving under the influence of alcohol we now pay for his actions with the loss of our loved one he was the best caring loving young man always with a smile on his face this is still hard for us to believe Thank you for all the support.”
