Officers rescue suicidal teen from rocks on Carmel Beach

Two Carmel Police Officers are being applauded for preventing a distraught teenager from killing himself.

Officers Michael Bruno and Jacob Clifford received a call last week about a teenage boy sitting on the rocks south of Carmel Beach trying to commit suicide by jumping into the raging ocean.

The Officers found the teen near the Butterfly House, where they climbed onto the rocks with waves crashing around them.

Officer Clifford grabbed the teen by the arm and Officer Bruno grabbed Clifford’s belt to keep hold of each other and the boy until other first responders could arrive.

The teen was taken to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula to get the help he needed.

Clifford and Bruno will be recognized by the Monterey County Peace Officers Association for their heroic and successful efforts to keep the boy from throwing himself into the surf.

“These officers are to be commended for their professionalism and calm resolve under dangerous life-threatening circumstances. If it weren’t for the diligent teamwork of all involved, the teenage subject would have undoubtedly perished at the scene,” says Chief Tomasi.
