Scotts Valley police arrested a man on drug and weapon charges, after finding an unregistered handgun in the home he shares with his 4-year-old son.

Police searched the home of Kyle Baxter in response to reports that a small child had possible access to a firearm. Officers found an unregistered gun and a quantity of methamphetamine.

Baxter, the boy’s father, was on probation and wearing an ankle monitor.

He was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of meth, probation violation, and child endangerment.

Scotts Valley police contacted Child Protective Services. Police say the child is in the care of relatives.
