New beer in Monterey to raise money for victims of Camp Fire

A new beer is coming to Alvarado Street Brewery in Monterey, and grabbing a “cold one” is one way you can help our neighbors in Butte County, this holiday season.

“Around the holiday time everyone’s trying to cheer up a bit by drinking beer, and the more money that can go to the Camp Fire the better,” said customer, Joshua Less.

The “Resilience” beer is being brewed in Monterey, and across the country, to help those who lost everything in the Camp Fire. The idea was brought about by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., who supplied ingredients to all participating brew pubs.

“It’s nice to contribute back into the community and make sure it’s not always about us making beer. It’s about us making beer for other people,” said Head Brewer at Alvarado Street Brewery, Wade Caswell.

Caswell is making the “Resilience” IPA in house. This is a process that, he said, takes nearly two weeks. “It’ll have a little bit of sweetness to it, then a nice, good, bitter backbone for it. We’ll put a nice dry hop in there. You’ll get a lot of green, grassy, all around delicious IPA flavors,” said Caswell.

Customers said they are anxious to try the new brew, but this means even more to Corey Burch, a Paradise native, and now, Monterey resident. “It hits home obviously for me. I know a lot of loved ones that could possibly be helped by this,” said Burch.

Others said they’re coming back on Wednesday, when the beer finally drops.

“Well I mean, I love beer. The more beer I can have the better. If those proceeds, and the money from the beer that I’m buying and drinking can go to help a good cause it’s great,” said Less.

The 16.9 oz “Resilience” beer costs $7, and every cent goes to the town of Paradise.
