Second storm brings wind and rain overnight
The second in a series of Pacific storms arrived on the Central Coast overnight with bands of heavy rain and strong winds.
The storm followed the first wave of rain on Wednesday. By 5 p.m., Monterey had recorded .67 inches of rain. Santa Cruz had received .63 inches.
Forecasters expect strong winds and high seas to accompany the storms.
The National Weather Service in Monterey has issued a High Surf Advisory for the immediate coast of Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties through 4 a.m. Friday. Northwest swells of 13-16 ft. and breaking waves of 18-24 ft. are possible.
West to west-southwest winds are expected to reach 15-25 mph with possible gusts over 45 mph.
A Wind Advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday for the following areas:
– Coastal Santa Cruz County – Coastal Monterey County – Santa Cruz Mountains – Santa Lucia Range/Los Padres National Forest
The second system brought down a tree in downtown Salinas early Thursday, although no major damage has been reported.
After a break Friday, a weaker system is expected to bring lighter precipitation.
