Central Coast groups offer free Thanksgiving meals
UPDATE: 11/22/2018 4:49 p.m. It’s something that many of us take for granted: a hot meal on Thanksgiving.
“It means a lot, being that I don’t have too much family around here,” said Lisa Salazar, who came to Dorothy’s Place for a meal this Thanksgiving.
Every holiday season, volunteers sacrifice their time at home to help those who need it most, and this year was no different. “So many people don’t have anything and I wanted to take this opportunity to give back,” said volunteer at Dorothy’s Place, Jennifer Russell.
Turkey, all the fixings, and pumpkin pie were prepared, served, and enjoyed at Dorothy’s Place in Salinas, and many other organizations along the Central Coast, this Thanksgiving. “Seeing the happy faces. Seeing people getting some really delicious food today and just enjoying their company,” said Russell.
One man said that Thursday was the first time in 7 years that he has eaten a meal on Thanksgiving. Others said they are just happy to have a warm place to spend the holiday.
“It means that I can be happy. That I get to eat something and be thankful for that,” said Adam Fritcher, who also came to Dorothy’s Place on Thanksgiving.
“I’m thankful for being alive another day and thankful for the meal. I’m thankful that I could come somewhere and take a shower and eat a warm meal,” said Salizar.
