Man caught in bathroom with boy arrested in Salinas on Live PD
A terrifying moment for a Salinas family but they took action. The family thought a man had inappropriately touched a young boy at a Salinas restaurant so they tracked him down and held him for police.
The alleged incident happened inside Taquitos Mexican restaurant off North Main Street in Salinas.
Police said the family tackled the suspect in the parking lot, helping a lone police officer make the arrest.
The family came to the defense of their child, attacking his accused abuser.
You can see the damage in the booking photo for Alberto Diaz. He was arrested Saturday night. Diaz is accused of inappropriately touching a young boy inside Taquito’s.
Police told KION a family member found Diaz near their young relative in the bathroom. A verbal argument ensued with Diaz leaving the restaurant.
Salinas police said Diaz ran but fell. He was tracked down by the family, who called police then took justice into their own hands.
Officer Miguel Cabrera said, “They were able to detain him. They were holding him down on the ground until officers arrived.”
Once police arrived officers said Diaz resisted arrest. Video circulating shows family members helping police putting him in a headlock.
“Not going to say that we recommend going after a suspect, but they did what they thought needed to be done,” said Cabrera.
Diaz was hospitalized with minor injuries before being booked into the county jail.
He is facing charged of annoying/molesting a minor, battery, and resisting arrest.
