SPCA for Monterey County takes in pets from Camp Fire

The SPCA for Monterey County took in more than two dozen pets from shelters in Butte County where California’s deadliest wildfire is burning.

Twenty-one cats and kittens, including eight feral cats, five dogs and one puppy were rescued by the SPCA.

Twenty-five of the pets were in the shelter before the fires began. Two pets were surrendered by owners who could no longer keep them.

Pets lost during the fire are still in Butte County to give owners a chance to find them.

“These 27 pets will be placed up for adoption after we provide veterinary treatment, vaccinations, and spay or neuter surgeries. You can help by adopting one of the 112 animals currently in our shelter looking for homes to help make room for more animals in need,” said Director of Community Outreach, Beth Brookhouser.

The SPCA for Monterey County has offered assistance to Ventura County Animal Services. They have a rescue team ready to take animals from fire areas once requested.
