One dead in train vs pedestrian accident in Salinas

UPDATE: 11/14/2018 10:37 a.m. One person is dead following a train vs. pedestrian accident in Salinas.

The Salinas Police Department said the fatal accident occurred near Abbot and Harkins Road Tuesday afternoon.

“An Amtrak train was was travelling southbound through Salinas in the area of the dead end of Sanborn Place,” said Commander Maldonado.

SPD said an Amtrak driver started honking his horn when he saw a man walking on the tracks. The man was walking in the same direction as the train and he never turned back to respond to the horn, says police.

The train could not stop in time and struck the 34-year-old man, killing him.
