Fire near Pogonip Park was started by cooking fire at campsite

UPDATE: 11/13/2018 4 p.m. Santa Cruz firefighters have contained a vegetation fire burning at Pogonip Park.

Fire officials said the fire ignited overnight near Golf Club Drive in Santa Cruz. Cal Fire CZU and about 50 other firefighters helped contain the 1.9 acre vegetation fire around 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Batallion Chief Dan Kline said it was determined that the fire was started by a cooking fire at a campsite.

“The Santa Cruz Fire Department wants to remind everyone that the fuels are very dry, extreme fire conditions exist and unsafe fires or open flames should be avoided.
