Central Coast Mueller supporters take to the streets to rally

Protestors were out in Monterey Thursday evening concerned about the future of the Mueller investigation following the resignation of attorney general Jeff Sessions.

Dozens came out to Del Monte Avenue raising their signs and voices with a message they say everyone needs to hear.

“We support the Mueller investigation we need to protect it,” said Kathryn Maurer with Indivisible Monterey Bay, “Mr. Mueller needs to finish doing his job so that we can come to a conclusion that the country can be behind and that we can start healing.”

KION stopped by the Monterey County Republican Offices, just down the street from the rally. No one was available to speak, we did put a call into the party chair and have not heard back.

Still, many at the rally say the probe into Russian collusion is not partisan.

“It’s in everyone’s best interest,” Maurer said, “It’s in our president’s best interest to have this investigation go forward and get at the truth and present that. Mr. Mueller is very well respected and he will do a good job and we need to see what he’s done so that we can all have confidence in our government.”

While many at the protest were hopeful, some like Rafael Gomez, a Spanish professor at CSUMB, know there’s no guarantee they’ll be heard.

“The last two years I’ve learned to not be confident of anything,” he said, “That’s the reason why I’m out here.”
