Vegetation fire burning behind UC Santa Cruz is 90 percent contained
UPDATE: 11/8/2018 1:10 p.m. Firefighters are battling a vegetation fire behind UC Santa Cruz.
Cal Fire crews responded to the wildland fire around 7 a.m. Wednesday.
Chief Rob Sherman told KION the fire is burning near the north campus and Pogonip Park.
Fire crews have stopped forward progress around the 3.75 acre fire and it’s 90 percent contained.
Seven fire engines, three water tenders, and two crews responded to the scene.
Chief Sherman said the fire is burning brush in steep terrain.
No structures are threatened.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Santa Cruz Fire, Felton Fire, Branciforte and Central Fire are assisting.
