UPDATE: Suspect, 12 others die in Southern California bar shooting
A Ventura County sheriff’s spokesman says a gunman is dead inside a bar in Thousand Oaks, about 40 miles west of Los Angeles.
Authorities say as many as 12 others, including a responding deputy, were shot and killed Wednesday night at Borderline Bar and Grill, a club that hosts theme nights such as country, salsa and swing.
Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the incident around 11:30 p.m..
Early reports indicated the gunman threw smoke bombs into the bar before opening fire, but that was not immediately confirmed. According to one witness, the suspect fired as many as 30 shots.
According to the bar’s website, a “College Country” night was being held at the bar at the time of the shooting.
