Central Coast voters ‘nervous’ about Election Day
Election Day is nearly upon the Central Coast with important races and issues at local, state and federal levels.
Many voters have already cast their ballots or plan to on Tuesday, and many are nervous about the results.
On Monday, a few residents in Marina went out to Reservation Road and Del Monte Boulevard for one last minute push for their candidates.
“There’s so much at stake even locally,” said Eric Peterson, a Salinas resident. “I’m kind of worried what some of the other states are going to do.”
For many voters like Peterson, this year’s midterm election includes some important choices.
“The ones that really matter to me are who we send to the state legislature and who we put on some of our local boards,” said Peterson.
From statewide propositions on rent control and the gas tax to deeply partisan governor and congressional races, the election has many people feeling anxious.
“I’m excited. I want people to get out and vote. I’m nervous because it’s important,” said Priscilla Rosen, a Walker resident visiting Monterey Monday evening.
“A little nervous…I’m hoping that the Democrats take the house, would love to see the Democrats take the Senate. I don’t like the direction that our country is headed right now,” said Teresa Christensen, a Monterey resident.
Nearly 20 million Californians are registered to vote in this election. It is the biggest number in the state’s history.
“If you don’t vote, you don’t get your voice. If you lose that chance, then we’re going to just keep going down the slippery slope,” said Rosen. “We’ve got to change things, and we actually can.”
But apart from all the issues and candidates, many people are just ready for it to be over. They say the heated political climate is tiring.
“As a human being, I’m really troubled by it. I’m just hopeful for a better future because this can’t be the direction that we’re going to continue to head in,” said Christensen.
