Gonzales man pleads guilty for fatal DUI crash

UPDATE: 11/2/2018 3:00 p.m. A Gonzales man pleaded guilty to driving drunk during a fatal accident in Monterey County.

According to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office, 38-year-old Charles Bailey II was speeding down Gloria Road when he struck another car from behind.

The accident happened around 10 p.m. on April 17, 2018.

The victim, Guadalupe Solis died from his injuries, his niece suffered multiple injuries including a back injury and broken pelvis.

Bailey was found under the influence with a blood alcohol level of .10.

Bailey will be sentenced to 13 years in prison on Nov. 28 at 8:45 a.m.

A Salinas man is dead after a drunk driver struck his vehicle Tuesday evening.

CHP officials say just after 11, 38-year-old Charles Bailey was speeding westbound on Gloria Rd, east of US-101.

With Bailey’s level of intoxication and high rate of speed, he failed to see a Chevrolet Malibu with two occupants also traveling westbound on Gloria Rd.

Bailey’s vehicle hit the rear of the Chevrolet, causing it to veer off the south edge of the road where it overturned and came to rest on its wheels.

The GMC veered off the north end of the road into a vineyard. The 55-year-old driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced deceased at the scene and his 42-year-old female passenger suffered a broken pelvis.

The use of the occupant restraint system is pending further investigation. Gloria Rd was closed for an extended period of time for patient care and scene investigation.

Bailey was arrested.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Monterey County Coroner’s Office upon notification of the next of kin.

This collision is currently under investigation, alcohol is believed to be a factor.
