Police warn of email scam
Scotts Valley police released an email this week that looks like a genuine request for payment of a traffic citation.
It is not. It is a scam.
Police say the email contains clues that it is bogus, but you have to look carefully.
For example:
The return email address is general (does not list a state) There is no vehicle code listed as a violation There is not a vehicle description or driver listed There is no citing officer listed Scotts Valley police add that their citations are given directly to the driver, and any courtesy notices regarding fines are issued by the Santa Cruz County Superior Court through the mail.
They suggest you look carefully at emails you receive and contact police if you need help determining their authenticity.
