89-year-old struck by car on Airport Blvd in Watsonville
UPDATE: 11/1/2018 3:16 p.m. An elderly man suffered life threatening injuries after being struck by a car in Watsonville.
The accident occurred in the eastbound lanes of Airport Boulevard around 6:45 a.m.
Watsonville police said instead of using a crosswalk the 89-year-old victim tried crossing the street from one bus stop to another when he was hit by a green Volkswagen Beetle.
The driver told police they did not see the victim and is cooperating with the investigation.
WPD does not think speed, drugs, alcohol or cell phones were factors.
The area was shut down for five hours.
The 89-year-old was taken to an out of county trauma center.

An injury accident has shut down a portion of Airport Boulevard in Watsonville.
The Watsonville Police Department posted to Facebook around 8 a.m. Thursday, advising drivers to stay away from Airport Blvd. near Safeway.
WPD said eastbound Airport Blvd will be closed for an extended period of time while police investigate the crash site.
The victim is an 89-year-old man.
No further details on the extent of the injuries at this time.
