Monterey County Sheriff deputy arrested for sexual contact with inmate
A Monterey County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested for sexual contact with a female inmate.
According to the sheriff’s office, an inmate walked into a supply room and saw deputy Marlon Alvarenga with another inmate in a “sexual encounter.”
The incident happened on Tuesday, October 2.
The inmate who witnessed the encounter notified staff members of what she saw on October 4.
Investigators confronted Alvarenga, he admitted to the encounter and was arrested on Friday.
Alvarenga was booked into the Monterey County Jail for assault under the color of authority and for being a peace officer who engages in sexual activity with a consenting adult who is confined in a detention facility.
Alvarenga is a 4 year veteran and has been placed on administrative leave as the investigation continues.
“It is important to note, that we may not have known about this incident had it not been for an inmate coming forward to make a report. We are grateful she had the trust and willingness to confide in us,” said the sheriff’s office. “This is an unfortunate situation for the Monterrey County Sheriff’s Office which prides itself on the care and security of the people in our jail. This incident is counter to our core values. And, under no circumstances will illegal or unethical behavior be tolerated by our staff.”
