Red pelagic crabs take over central coast beaches

Unusually warm water temperatures have led to red pelagic crabs sprawled along the beach.

The Monterey Aquarium said these crabs tend to make appearances on the central coast around “El Niño” conditions.

According to The Harbor Seals of Pacific Grove Facebook page, there have been sightings of these crabs several times in the past couple years as water temperature continues to increase.

KION’s Drew Andre will have details on how long the crabs could be here at 5 and 6 p.m.
