San Andreas fault line shakes Central Coast
An earthquake on the San Andreas fault line shook hundreds of central coast residents right out of bed.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the magnitude 3.9 quake hit 2.5 miles south west of Tres Pinos at 6:29 a.m. Friday.
It was felt in San Francisco and other communities as far away as Petaluma, about 40 miles northwest of Oakland.
The San Andreas fault line is the most active fault systems in California. It runs 800 miles down the California coastline, including 30 miles in the southeastern portion of Monterey County.
Thousands of commuters drive over the fault line without even knowing it.
KION’s Ashley Keehn will have more on the active fault line and the damage it’s done at 5 and 6 p.m.
