Two suspects face charges for involvement in 2014 Seaside homicide, attempted homicides

Two men are facing charges for their involvement in a Seaside homicide and attempted homicides back in 2014.

35-year-old Khalik Kennedy was shot and killed while walking to his car near San Pablo and Shawnee Court in April of 2014.

According to the Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team, Pedro Pinedo is a suspect in Kennedy’s murder.

Pinedo is also facing charges for a shooting in February of 2014 in the 1700 block of Luxton Street in Seaside.

“The victim was on foot in the area when he and others were shot at multiple times by a lone suspect. The victim was struck by gunfire but survived his injuries,” said Lt. Ethan Andrews.

Charges are also being sought against Pinedo for a shooting in March of 2014. The attempted murder took place in the 1600 block of Noche Buena in Seaside. The victim was shot at several times while inside a home. The victim was hit by a bullet but survived.

Pinedo is currently serving a prison sentence for an unrelated conviction of sexual assault in 2015.

PRVNT is also pursuing criminal charges against Martin Trinidad for gang conspiracy.

Lt. Andrews said, at the time of the Seaside homicide and attempted homicides, Trinidad and Pinedo were members of a criminal street gang.

“Martin Trinidad is currently in custody at the Monterey County Jail pending criminal proceedings for charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm after he was arrested by PRVNT for his involvement in a Norteno rap video which depicted gang members holding and shooting firearms,” Lt. Andrews said.

The Peninsula Cold Case Project is a collaboration between local, state and federal law enforcement partners, the DOJ, and the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office.

Lt. Andrews said, “The mission of the PCCP is to close unsolved homicides and this regional investigative effort has resulted in a number of homicide case closures including the 1998 abduction and homicide of 13-year-old Christina Williams.”
