Local law enforcement sits down for Coffee With a Cop

Central Coast residents can have a cup of coffee with law enforcement officers today during National Coffee With a Cop Day.

The goal of the program is for police and residents to bond over coffee to improve communication.

“National Coffee With a Cop Day is all about bringing police and citizens together to discuss community issues and build relationships,” said Santa Cruz police chief Andy Mills.

Chief Mills and senior staff from the Santa Cruz Police Department will host an after-work event from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Starbucks at 745 Ocean Street.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office will have events from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the following locations:

Davenport: Whale City Bakery, 490 CA-1 Boulder Creek: Jenna Sue’s Coffee, 13010 Hwy 9 at Central Avenue Ben Lomond: Coffee Nine, 9509 Hwy 9 Live Oak: Cat & Cloud Coffee, 3600 Portola Drive Aptos: California Coffee, 9105 Soquel Drive Watsonville: Corralitos Coffeehouse, 531c Corralitos Road Monterey County events include:

Salinas Police: 3-6 p.m. at the Starbucks at 515 Work Street. Marina Police: 7:30-9 a.m. at Marina Donuts and Bagels Gonzales Police: 7-9 a.m at La Plaza Bakery, 33 Third Street Carmel Police: 7-8:30 a.m at Carmel Valley Roasting Company, Ocean Avenue next to Merlot Restaurant Pacific Grove Police: 10-11 a.m. at Carmel Valley Coffee Roasting Company, 510 Lighthouse Avenue The Coffee With a Cop program was started by the Hawthorne Police Department in 2011. It has since grown to a national event with over 2,000 law enforcement agencies participating.
