Salinas man dies in hwy 101 crash near King City

UPDATE: 10/1/2018 1:43 p.m. A Salinas man was killed in a crash on Highway 101, north of King City, Sunday night.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 18-year-old Marcelino Martinez III was speeding in a 2001 GMC Yukon, south of Teague Avenue with two passengers when he drifted into the dirt center divide.

The Yukon overturned into the southbound traffic lanes where it was struck by a blue Chevy Cruze.

CHP said a minor in the Yukon got out of the car and ran into the center divide. The driver of a Dodge Ram could not see the car in the roadway and collided with the driver side of the Yukon.

Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene.

The southbound lanes were closed for about 3 hours during the investigation.

Law enforcement was diverting traffic onto Teague Avenue, then Central Avenue.
