New movie being filmed near Seabright State Beach

The director of the movie Get Out is working on his next film here on the Central Coast.

Not much information is being released about Jordan Peele’s new film, but the production crew has people talking.

Neighbors in the Seabright State Beach area say they are happy to have this spot highlighted, “I am really happy that universal chose Santa Cruz to do a filming location, really shining light on a town that doesn’t always have the best reputation,” says Tarek Chakib.

Those who live there are getting a front row seat to the unedited action, “We had Jordan Peele right in our driveway, yeah I took a selfie with him. It was happening right in front of our house and I even have blood on the bottom of my shoe because blood is in my gutter,” say Martin and Teri Jaureguy.

For some, it’s the first time seeing a production, Jack Faraola says his favorite part, “probably the coolest thing is when they light the car on fire.”

It does come with some road closures, through Friday but Danielle Faraola says it’s worth it, “”it’s just a minor detour, we don’t mind, it’s pretty exciting to have a movie filmed in your neighborhood.”

Aside from the excitement of the production, they also can bring in a hefty amount of revenue.

One example the 2012 movie Chasing Mavericks, brought in hundreds of thousands of dollars.

“It generated over 200,000 dollars for our local lodging industry and about 20 thousand dollars in transient occupancy tax, that transient occupancy tax goes into the general fund, it funds our police, fire departments, helps fill our pot holes, does a lot of good for the local economy,” says Christina Glynn with the Santa Cruz County film commission.

And revenue from some big named movies is still coming in, “the most popular movie in Santa Cruz both in terms of commercial success and it’s colt following has been the Lost Boys. It literally has put us on
the map with movie fans and now their children who are coming back to celebrate Santa Cruz and Santa Cruz’s place within that particular narrative,” says Glynn.
