Law enforcement looking for drivers who don’t stop for pedestrians in Salinas
Multiple law enforcement agencies are working together to catch drivers not stopping for people crossing busy intersections.
Officers set up a pedestrian sting operation across Salinas including at the corner Alisal and Holaday.
An officer in plain clothes would try to cross the street and see if cars stopped and then warn drivers about the dangers of not stopping for pedestrians.
Salinas residents think the sting is a good thing.
“We’ve seen a lot of hit and runs, cars don’t stop, as you can tell there have been a couple of tickets,” said Salinas resident Maria Mendoza.
“A lot of people they need to walk and people don’t stop, so the people are waiting and waiting and I think this is a really good idea,” said Lauren Chavez, Salinas resident.
The sting includes two teams of law enforcement at four different high-incident locations throughout the day.
Salinas Police said there was a hit-and-run at Alisal and Holaday in August.
The law says you can’t prevent a pedestrian from crossing the street, you have to let them pass.
103 drivers were ticketed on Thursday, September 6th. Six cars were towed for driver’s license violations.
