Building the village that houses all of Car Week’s events

At Pebble Beach the popular saying around Car Week is, “It takes a village.” That’s likely because they practically build a village right on the property.

Senior Director of the Pebble Beach Concours, Sean Jacobs, says, “Two weeks out from the event and we’re already having tents go up, some of our displays are two week builds, ten week builds.” All that building and hosting means a big crew as well. About twelve hundred volunteers and eight hundred temporary staff join the team for this event, and they don’t just get started in August.

Jacobs says, “These plans and the tents you see going on here, we started working on these plans I mean, fall, early spring, so things have really been in motion for quite a while.” A year round effort to get Pebble ready for one of the biggest events on the peninsula, transforming golf course into car showcase.

“We take over the entire property from Pebble Beach, Spanish Bay, Casa Palmero. The tour itself we start here at Pebble Beach, we drive through Carmel, we’re down to Big Sur. We really try to take advantage of all the beautiful resources we have here,” says Jacobs. Resources that are brought together by that village of people and tents with a simple message, celebrating cars and raising money for charity.

Jacobs says, “It’s a dedicated effort all months of the year to make sure that the event goes off without a hitch and that everyone who comes here to celebrate the automobile enjoys themselves, has a good time, and sees something new that they may not have seen before.”
