Two suspects wanted after robbing elderly man and leading CHP on chase in Santa Cruz County
Two suspects wanted in connection with several robberies around the Central Coast and Bay Area led CHP on a chase Wednesday night.
They eventually exited on State Park Drive and crashed into a traffic light pole.
The suspects fled on foot and did get away, but not before the pursuing CHP officer got a description.
“Two black male adults one had shoulder length either braids or dreads, and the other one had longer hair,” says Officer Trista Drake with the California Highway Patrol.
CHP says they believe they have identified one of the suspects after getting the description and talking with other agencies, but are not releasing the identity yet.
The suspects are wanted in connection to multiple robberies including some in Berkeley, Santa Clara County, Monterey County and Santa Cruz County.
One of the most recent robberies was reported around 7p.m. at the Starbucks on 41st avenue.
“There was a 69 year old man who was inside a coffee shop at that location. A black male adult came in grabbed a laptop and ran to an awaiting car. The victim tried to confront the suspect and was ultimately punched,” says Sgt. Brian Cleveland with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office.
The get away car was described as a silver Prius and was soon located by another agency.
“That vehicle then left the scene, Scotts Valley got into a short pursuit with that specific vehicle, A Chp officer did locate that vehicle and saw that it was driving erratically, doing speeds over 100 miles per hour, passing on the shoulder, our officer was in pursuit of that vehicle, it was headed southbound on highway one, exited state park boulevard and ended up crashing,” says Officer Drake.
Five laptops were found in the crashed prius.
Once the suspects are caught, Sgt. Cleveland says they will be facing multiple charges, “in our county alone we have several crimes and I’m sure if we can connect them to the other counties crimes as well that would be a huge thing.”
