Eight amateur golfers face off in quarterfinals of U.S. Amateur Championship

Eight amateur golfers are back at the Pebble Beach Golf Links to compete in the quarterfinals of the 118th U.S. Amateur Championship.

The eight golfers include two young golfers from California.

18-year-old Devon Bling of Ridgecrest is ranked number 3022 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Bling will face off against 21-year-old Davis Riley of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, number 24 in the World Amateur Ranking.

21-year-old Isaiah Salinda of South San Francisco will go head to head with 22-year-old Will Gordon of Davidson, North Carolina.

18-year-old Cole Hammer of Houston Texas plays against 19-year-old Alex Fitzpatrick of England, number 67 in the World Amateur Ranking.

Finally, 21-year-old Austin Squires of Union, Kentucky will face off against 20-year-old Viktor Hovland of Norway, ranked Number 5 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.

There will still be a lot more golf to play with the semi-finals on Saturday and the Championship on Sunday and it offers a unique experience for fans.

“To be able to walk more or less inside the rope lines, you can pretty much follow the players down the fairways, around the greens, this is a great opportunity to get up close with some of the players to be able to see some of the best amateur players in the world compete in our national championship,” said Eric Steimer, Senior Manager U.S. Open Championships, USGA.

The top two players at the amateur will be invited to play in the 2019 U.S. Open Championship at Pebble Beach.
