Woman pleads not guilty to attack in downtown Santa Cruz

UPDATE: 8/16/2018 1:46 p.m. A woman is behind bars after Santa Cruz Police said she attacked someone for no reason.

Officers said 46-year-old Katherine Galbraith from San Francisco struck the victim in the back of the head and ran away.

The attack happened Tuesday, August 14.

The victim flagged down an officer who promptly responded and detained Galbraith.

Based on a previous citable battery incident involving Ms. Galbraith, the SCPD sought a judge to approve a bail increase. They then found out Galbraith had been on court release from a previous arrest. Galbraith was out on her own recognizance providing she obey all laws.

Based on the SCPD request to the judge, the court revoked the OR status and Katherine Galbraith was booked into jail.

Galbraith pleaded not guilty to battery charges in court Thursday. She’ll be back in court on August 24.
