Update: 57-year-old passenger dies in Highway 101 crash near Gilroy
UPDATE: 8/13/2018 4:20 p.m. A fatal crash on Highway 101 shutdown northbound traffic near Gilroy early Monday morning.
33-year-old Jimenez Sosa of Castroville was driving a white Warehouse Direct Flooring Company van with two passengers when he rear ended a semi-truck, killing his front passenger.
The accident occurred around 8 a.m. on northbound Highway 101 just south of Old Monterey Road.
“The force of the collision caused the van to then travel into another lane and collide with a 2005 Ford Explorer,” said CHP.
The 57-year-old passenger in the van was wearing a seatbelt when he died, according to CHP.
Northbound Highway 101 was closed for about two hours.
The California Highway Patrol diverted all traffic before the accident to the Highway 129 exit ramp.
Investigators don’t believe alcohol or drugs played a factor in this crash.
