Bacon-inspired dishes at the 2018 Monterey Bacon Festival
The Monterey County Fairgrounds will see decorations of bacon and bacon-inspired dishes as part of the Monterey Bacon Festival.
This version of the festival is still in somewhat of its infancy, having been established just a few years ago.
Five main chefs will take command of the 7 kitchens on-hand at the site.
Overall the event will feature 12 chefs showing off a variety of bacon-inspired dishes throughout the weekend.
“We just enjoy feeding people,” says Tony Baker. Baker is the co-owner of the Bacon Festival.
“We enjoy feeding people, we’ll get up at 1 in the morning out of a deep sleep because someone is visiting our house and we’ll cook for em,” he adds.
Baker and fellow chef Dyon Foster say the dishes they offer tend to keep bacon as the top performer in a variety of recipes.
Foster says he likes to keep it simple with a BLT on the menu for festival go-ers this year. Although he will also cook up some bacon apple fritters this year.
Speaking of a “stage” live music will also be on the way as Badfinger is slated to perform this Saturday with acts on Sunday as well.
But if you’re mostly there for the food and happen to get a VIP ticket to the Monterey Bacon Festival, you’ll see a whole “bacon pig” which has undergone a curing process for the last week or so leading up to the festival.
Whether you prefer a little more crunch to your bacon or not you can join in the bacony eats at this year’s Monterey Bacon Festival on August 11 through August 12.
Festivities start at 11 am and end at 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
