Update: Gilroy fires almost fully contained
UPDATE: 8/7/2018 1:11 p.m Firefighters are still working to put out two fires burning in Gilroy.
Both fires ignited Monday.
The Hecker Fire started near Watsonville Road and Highway 152 around 4:20 p.m. It burned 11.5 acres overnight. The fire is 90 percent contained.
No injuries were reported.
Folks were evacuated from Pharmer Road through Hecker Pass. Those evacuations have been lifted.
Two structures were damaged. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The second fire, named the Roop Fire burned 3.5 acres on Leavesley Road near the Coyote Reservoir.
The Roop Fire started around 9:45 p.m. and is 70 percent contained.
No structures were burned and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

A second vegetation fire ignited in Gilroy just after 9 p.m., Monday.
As of 9:45 p.m., Cal Fire tells KION it has burned between five and ten acres near the Coyote Reservoir, with “moderate” spreading on both sides of Leavesley Road.
California Highway Patrol says there are two closures, one at Roop Road and Leavesley Road, and the other at 7900 Leavesley Road. CHP also says there was one residence “in jeopardy” as of 9:10 p.m.
As for the first fire, which started after 4 p.m. near Watsonville Road and Highway 152, Cal Fire says it grew to be 13 acres, and damaged one home. As of about 9:45 p.m., all evacuations have been lifted and containment is at 50%. Cal Fire is keeping equipment on scene overnight to work on containment. There were no injuries.

A fire has shut down a portion of Highway 152 near Gilroy.
According to Cal Fire, the fire has burned three acres near Watsonville Road and Highway 152.
The fire ignited around 4:20 p.m. Monday.
Multiple structures are threatened and evacuations are in place from Pharmer Road through Hecker Pass.
