New FX series looking for extras on the Central Coast
The production crew for a new FX network series is looking for hundreds of extras on the Central Coast.
The first of two casting calls was held in Scotts Valley, Wednesday.
The new series is called “Devs.”
There is not a whole lot of information out about the show yet. We do know it will have to do with a tech company based out of the Bay Area.
One of the filming locations will be UC Santa Cruz.
Today, production crews held their first casting call at the Hilton in Scotts Valley. They told KION they’re looking to fill 500 to 1,000 spots. The only requirement is you have to be 18 or older.
KION reporter, Ashley Keehn spoke with casting assistant Gina Cavuoto who has helped with several other productions in the area. She said this one is bringing something unique to the area.
“Unlike a lot of productions that come to town, they bring a lot of their own people, so this production is giving everybody an opportunity to come on out and make some money. This production is going to actually be here for a month. Transformers was just here for a couple of days. So again, they’re really wanting community involvement, they want to eat local, they want to hire local so it’s super cool.”
Cavuoto says this production, like others that have been filmed in the area will boost the local economy, “first of all the hotels, you’ve got production you’ve got casting, you’ve got producers you’ve got directors. And then they want to eat so it’s really important, and then they want to shop.”
Filming is expected to start in mid-August and go through late September.
If you are cast as an extra you get paid a little more than $100 a day.
If you missed the casting call Wednesday, there will be another one at the Hilton in Scotts Valley on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The casting director, Dixie Webster-Davis says she thinks they’ll find what they’re looking for, “no real requirements, you know we’re looking for all different types of looks and all different types of people. So basically just bring two forms of ID so we can pay them, but it’s all based on looks so come as you are.”
The I.D.’s you can bring are driver’s license, passport or social security card.
