Man arrested in connection to Fort Ord trail attack
A Salinas man was arrested in connection to a recent trail attack at the Fort Ord National Monument.
On Wednesday, July 25, the Bureau of Land Management in coordination with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27-year-old Juan Almanza on charges of sexual battery and attempted kidnapping.
Almanza was arrested at the Creekside Terrace Trailhead at the Fort Ord National Monument where the alleged assault occurred.
The Sand City Police Department assisted in the identification of Almanza by creating a sketch.
Investigators are still looking into other reported assaults on the same trail.
“The BLM would like to remind visitors to please be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement,” said BLM spokesperson.
