Police investigating hit-and-run in Salinas

The Salinas Police Department is asking the public for help finding a hit-and-run driver.

According to police, a 19-year-old and her sister were crossing East Alisal Street at Holaday Avenue when they were hit. It happened at 12:27 a.m. Monday, July 23rd.

Police said the two were in a marked crosswalk and several vehicles stopped in the eastbound lanes to let them cross, but a grey older model Honda didn’t stop and hit the victim.

The driver took off and a witness who tried following the car lost track of it in the area of Alisal and Sconberg Parkway.

The victim was taken to the hospital with major injuries, but is expected to recover. Police said her injuries are not life-threatening.
