Salinas man arrested for Memorial Day weekend homicide
UPDATE: 7/20/2018 4:02 p.m. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man they believe shot two people at a quinceañera Memorial Day weekend, killing one.
The shooting occurred in the 300 block of San Juan Grade Road, the night of May 26.
According to the sheriff’s office, 25-year-old Angel Fabian Vasquez Iniguez of Salinas, was the prime suspect in this case.
Two people were struck by bullets. One of the shooting victims was in stable condition and taken to a local hospital.
The other victim, Josiah Marquez was found in a car in the 400 block of Towt Street in Salinas. The victim was taken to Natividad where he died a few hours later.
“We quickly realized his death was connected to the shooting at the quinceañera. We reached an agreement with Salinas PD that we would take the lead in the case. We conducted numerous interviews of witnesses and identified Angel Fabian Iniguez as the prime suspect in the shooting,” said the sheriff’s office.
Iniguez was arrested at his home just across the street from where the shooting happened. He was booked into the Monterey County Jail for murder.
“It is sad that such a wonderful day was soiled by such violence. We’re glad to have a suspect in custody.”
19-year-old Giovanni Solis was arrested on May 31 for murder in connection to this case.

A body found on Towt Street in Salinas is connected to a Memorial Day weekend shooting on San Juan Grade Road in Monterey County.
According to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, two people were shot at a party near the 300 block of San Juan Grade Road Saturday night (5/26). Deputies said one of the shooting victims was in stable condition and taken to a local hospital.
Around 11:30 p.m. Salinas Police got a tip from an unknown caller that a shooting victim was in a car near the 500 block of Towt Street. The victim was taken to Natividad where he died a few hours later.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office told KION both shooting victims were at the party on San Juan Grade Road.
The sheriff’s office has identified the suspect as 25-year-old Angel Fabian Vasquez Iniguez of Salinas. An arrest warrant has been signed for the homicide, attempted homicide, and felon in possession of a handgun.
