Bridge Street homicide victim ID’d

UPDATE: 7/19/18 1:46 p.m. A man shot and killed in Salinas last Friday has been identified.

The Salinas Police Department said 61-year-old Armando Ortiz was shot on Bridge and E. Lake Street around 5 p.m. on July 13. When officers arrived they found Ortiz suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Ortiz died at the scene.

The motive is unknown at this time.

SPD said the investigation is ongoing and updates will be provided when available.

The Investigations Bureau is asking anyone with information on the shooting to call Detective Ken Schwener at (831) 758-7276

One person was killed in a shooting in Salinas, Friday night. The Salinas Police Department is investigating the shooting as a homicide. There have been no arrests

Salinas Police say they responded to Bridge Street and East Lake Street after a ShotSpotter activation, at approximately 5:04 p.m. Officers found a 61-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

There has been no arrest for the homicide, and there is no known motive. SPD says they do not know if the victim has any gang affiliation.

The investigation is ongoing.

There was another person found injured near the scene. Police tell KION that person was a victim of an unrelated assault.

Salinas Police confirmed Friday evening that they are responding to a shooting in Chinatown.

It’s in the area of East Lake Street and Soledad Street.

They are reporting that there are two victims.
