Hollister man reportedly tried to run over victim, leads police on chase
A Hollister man reportedly tried to run over a victim before leading police on a chase.
Hollister police officers responded to a domestic violence call in the 500 block of Santa Ana Road around 11:15 a.m. Monday.
A witness told police 23-year-old Austin Nye was in a red Jeep when he attempted to run someone over.
After obtaining a statement from the victim, officers began looking for Nye and his car.
Nye was located around 11:25 a.m. in Main Alley near Santa Ana Road.
According to Detective Leland, Nye sped away, parked his Jeep in the 100 block of McCarthy Avenue and took off running in a neighborhood.
Police and San Benito County Sheriff deputies began searching for Nye yard to yard.
“Nye moved from backyard to backyard jumping fences and forced entry to several homes and backyards in the area. Nye also kicked a detective while attempting to avoid arrest,” said Detective Leland.
Nye was eventually arrested near Maple Street and San Juan Drive. He was booked at the San Benito County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer, assault on a police officer causing injury, evading while driving a vehicle and other related offenses.
