Thousands of dollars worth of medication stolen from Hollister Safeway
Two suspects are behind bars for stealing thousands of dollars worth of over-the-counter drugs from a Safeway in Hollister.
According to the Hollister Police Department, two Vallejo residents, 19-year-old Melique Carter and 18-year-old Annalisia Kapisi stole from the Safeway on Tres Pinos Road on July 5.
“The reporting party provided a description of the two suspects, a vehicle description and the last direction of travel,” said Sgt. Don Pershall.
While responding to the call, an HPD officer spotted a car matching the description of the suspects.
A traffic stop was made on Hillcrest Road and HPD said they found several boxes of over-the-counter medications and other items inside the car with Carter and Kapisi.
“Information obtained during the investigation suggests that the two may have traveled from city to city to commit similar thefts,” Sgt. Pershall said.
Investigators found other items stolen from a store in Prunedale and a store in Half Moon Bay, CA.
The total amount of stolen pharmaceuticals recovered was more than $3,300.
HPD said both Carter and Kapisi are on probation from San Mateo County for prior convictions.
Carter and Kapisi were arrested and booked on charges of grand theft and conspiracy to commit a crime.
“The Hollister Police Department would like to thank the business employee who called to report the crime in progress and providing accurate and timely information. Our partnership with the community is an essential element regarding crime prevention, the capture of suspects and making Hollister a safer place to live,” said Sgt. Pershall.
