Superbike racers finish out competition at Laguna Seca
Racers made their final runs at the Superbike World Championship U.S. Round Sunday afternoon at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
Over 60,000 people showed up to feel the rumble of the superbikes passing by over the three day event.
Brad Littlefield, the raceway spokesperson, said this is the biggest motorcycle event they have all year. It is the only time the International World Superbike Series comes to the United States.
The event also features the MotoAmerica series where over 100 motorcycle racers ranging from 14 to 59 years old test out their skills.
Littlefield said big races like these do a lot for the local economy.
“This event in particular draws people from all over the world to Monterey County. And we’ve done some economic studies,” he said. “In 2015, there was over $12 million in direct spending alone to the county.”
Three American riders raced in the World Superbike grid. There were 20 riders total all from 11 different countries.
“It gets busy, sometimes there is a lot of people on the road, but all the business owners and restaurant owners and hotel businesses love us,” said Littlefield.
