Neighborhood Services hosting firework safety meeting Thursday

If you haven’t seen them, then maybe you’ve already heard them. Fireworks being lit off will only increase from here until the Fourth of July. And just in time, a meeting happening Thursday night all about firework safety in the City of Salinas.

This is video from 2017 after a firework landed on the roof of an East Salinas house, starting a fire. 12 people were sleeping inside, including 6 children. All were displaced. Its this type of thing and the hundreds of reports of illegal fireworks that the city hopes to put an end to, with a tougher approach.

“There’s going to be more enforcement and they are really going to be going after the illegal fireworks. They’re going to have staff specifically assigned to just focus on that on Fourth of July,” said Neighborhood Service Coordinator, Ana Ambriz.

The Salinas Fire Department will speak about firework safety and ways to keep your neighborhood safe at tonights meeting. It will run from 6:00 -7:00 p.m. at El Dorado Park Recreation Center, located at 1655 El Dorado Drive in Salinas.
