Salinas Police want neighborhoods to throw their own block party for National Night Out
National Night Out will have a new look and feel this year, as the Salinas Police Department is changing things up for the first time ever.
The department is moving away from one, centrally-located National Night Out, and instead are hoping for dozens to happen all around the city.
“We feel like the closer the neighborhood is, the safer the neighborhood is” said Salinas Police Department Sergeant Kendall Gray.
Which is really the idea behind the change. This year, Salinas police are encouraging neighborhoods around the city to throw their own block party for National Night Out. The hope is for each neighborhood to grow closer, while also connecting them with the Salinas Police Department and city services.
“Safer neighborhoods are typically tighter knit, closer together, have a good bond between the neighbors, and look out for each other. We felt doing block parties through the city would help us reach that goal,” said Gray.
The Salinas Police Department will have officers on hand to be at each party, but you do need to register.
There will be an information session held June 28th, 2018. They will talk about how to throw your own block party, and help complete the application form. The meeting will run from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 320 Lincoln avenue. National Night Out will take place on August 7th.
You can also register your block party here.
