Developing insomnia and the health risks from a demanding job

New research highlights the health risks linked to job stress. A study in a Lancet journal followed more than 100-thousand people. For men with coronary heart disease, stroke or diabetes, those experiencing job strain had a 68-percent greater risk of premature death.

Cancer survivors who stick to a balanced and nutritious diet may be less likely to die from cancer. Researchers at the University of Florida studied the benefits of a diet rich in produce, whole grains, proteins and dairy. Cancer survivors who followed that diet had a 65-percent lower risk of dying from cancer.

And one in four Americans develop insomnia each year. But 75-percent of them recover normal sleep within 12-months. Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania say 21-percent continue to be poor sleepers and about 6-percent develop chronic insomnia.
